Mercury crosses 43 deg C mark in Bhopal

Bhopal, June 8 (UNI) Heat wave conditions prevailed in northern and east Madhya Pradesh with the state capital recording its highest temperature in June at 43.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal.

Earlier, the highest temperature recorded in Bhopal in June was on June 10, 1919, when mercury touched 45.6 C.

Gwalior turned out to be the hottest region recording a high of 45.6 C.

Blistering heat swept across Madhya Pradesh affecting normal life.

The state capital braved intense heat during the day. In evening, hot winds blew across the city. A minimum of 31.2 C, five degrees above normal, was recorded.

A high of 45 C was recorded in Satna, followed by Jabalpur 44 C, Rewa 43 C and Indore 41.2 C. The minimum temperatures varied from 27 C to 36 C at various places.

A regional meteorological spokesman said heat wave condition prevailed in Rewa, Jabalpur, Sagar and Gwalior divisions.

Showers accompanied with lightning was expected in Jabalpur division in the next 24 hours.
