Maoist rebels attack JMM leader's house

Jamshedpur, June 8 (UNI) About 100 armed CPI(Maoist) rebels attacked the house of a local JMM leader and injured at least seven villagers at Kuiani village under Patamda police station area in East Singbhum district of the state last night.

Police today said the rebels came in a mini truck and 'gheraoed' the JMM block president Aditya Mahto's house. However, Mr Mahto was not in the house.

The armed maoists opened fire when a villager Bibhishan Pramanik tried to intercept them. As a result, he sustained serious injuries.

His brother Sudhir and five others also received bullet injuries.

Bibhisan and Sudhir were admitted to the MGM government hospital here.

The rebels also torched Mr Mahto's motor bike before leaving the place.

East Singhbhum superintendent of police Pankaj Darad along with other senior police officials had rushed to the spot.

Police said the ultras targeted Mr Mahto as he was spearheading development works in the areas.

No one was arrested so far.

Police have launched combing operations to nab the ultras.

DSP F K N Kujur is camping in the village following the attack, police said.
