HRD plays vital role in economic development: Minister

Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) D Purandareswari today stressed the importance of human capital in which people were considered as capital assets, yielding a stream of economic returns.

Delivering the inaugural address on 'Building Engagement - Opportunities and Challenges', organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, she said organisations were realising the epidemic of employee disengagement all over the world. ''We have a long way to go to ensure an inspired and motivated workforce''.

Mentioning that countries like the USA and Denmark have laws that take care of employees who were jobless and invest in their training, Ms Purandareswari said the major challenge in India was of Universal Education. Industry and institutions should work together and ensure that every child had access to quality education.

She highlighted the need for reforming industrial relations law in order to acquire higher growth rate to compete in the international market.
