Hb1Ac best way for diagnosis, management of diabetes

New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) Hb1Ac has been recognised as the most effective way for diagnosis and management of Diabetes world over, according to experts.

High glucose levels in blood are seen in haemoglobin (a molecule that transports oxygen) becoming glycated (having a sugar molecule on it) and is called Hb1Ac. The level of this Hb1Ac is an indication of diabetes.

Delhi Diabetes Research Centre (DDRC) in association with Bio-Rad laboratories on Thursday organised a seminar on Diagnosis and Management of Diabetes. The seminar focused on the need to manage the Diabetic disorder through Hb1Ac testing.

Renowned Diabetologist Dr Ashok Jhingan said Diabetes is the most common and the most dangerous life style related disease in India.

Being the Diabetes capital of the world, India needs renewed commitment from all quarters in its fight against Diabetes.

Emphasising the importance of early diagnosis of Diabetes, he said Hb1Ac testing is one of the key parameter to manage and control the Glysemic level in blood as it gives the mean glucose value of a person suffering from Diabetes. Hb1Ac also called 'Glycosylated Haemoglobin' is formed when a part of the blood glucose combines with haemoglobin.

Biorad A1c is a test which measures the 'Glycosylated haemoglobin' and is based on HPLC technology (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). It not only gives an accurate A1c value but also provides the values of other haemoglobin sub-types through a chromatogram report thus providing a complete patient picture to the doctor.

Founded in 1952, Bio-Rad laboratories USA is headquartered in Hercules, California and Bio-Rad India is its 100 per cent subsidiary headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana with regional offices in Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
