Digambar Kamat to be new Goa CM
Panaji, June 8: Digambar Kamat will head the new coalition government in Goa after he was elected leader of the Congress legislature Party (CLP) late yesterday night.
'Dark Horse' Kamat, who bypassed hot contenders like caretaker Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane and GPCC president Ravi Nayak, will be sworn in as state's 17 Chief Minister tomorrow at Raj Bhavan at 1100 hrs.
The CLP met late tonight in the presence of central observer R K Dhavan, MP, and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, besides AICC general secretry in charge of Goa desk Margret Alva. They had consultations with all the 16 Congress MLAs after which outgoing CM Rane proposed Mr Kamat's name. The proposal was seconded by all others.
Besides Mr Kamat, Ramakrishna Dhavalikar (MGP), independent MLA Vishwajit Rane (son of Mr Pratapsinh Rane) and an NCP nominee are also like to be sworn in.
