Court rejects anticipatory bail plea of 17 accused in scam

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 8 (UNI) A local court today rejected the anticipatory bail application of 17 accused involved in the recruitment scam in the Aurangabad District Central Cooperative Bank (ADCCB), which occurred in 2001 and 2004.

Additional District and Sessions Judge S B Savale rejected the anticipatory bail applications of Paithan MLA Sandeepan Bhumre and the Bank chairman Suresh Dayaram Patil among others.

The court allowed them to approach the High Court seeking bail against its decision by June 15, Additional Public Prosecutor Rajendra P Mugdia said.

The court, however, granted bail to three of the accused -- Bank director Kiran Patil Dongaonkar, Trimbak Solunke, an official of Zilla Dekhrekh Sangh, and Chandrabhan Jagtap, who is ailing seriously, who were named by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

On May 20, the ACB had arrested 16 of the total 46 accused, including former Congress MP Ramkrishna Patil and former MLA Nitin Patil, for their involvement in two separate two recruitment scams.

They were released on personal bond of Rs 15,000 each yesterday, Mr Mugdia said.

The ACB had named a total of 46 bank directors and officials as the accused in the scam that took place in 2001 and 2004. Two of the accused died recently, he added.
