BSF personnel, smuggler injured in attack

Cooch Behar, June 8 (UNI) Atleast one miscreant and a BSF personnel were injured in a firing at the Metligunj sub-division at Ratanpur Border Out Post (BOP), near here.

Additional Superintendent of Police James Kujur today said about six miscreants, who were trying to smuggle cattle through the border, attacked the BSF personnel at the BOP late last night.

Mr Kujjur said the miscreants attacked one of the personnel with a sword after the latter tried to stop them from crossing the border.

On retaliation the BSF fired 10 rounds, in which one of the smuggler was injured, he said, adding that the others managed to flee along with the cattle to Patgram village in Bangladesh.

Mr Kujur said the injured was arrested and rushed to a near by hospital. Investigations would start soon, he added.

Meanwhile, the BSF personnel, who was injured in the attack, was also admitted to a hospital.
