Aizawl, Jun 8 (UNI) Mizoram People's Conference(MPC) president Brig T Sailo today asked Chief Minister Zoramthanga to explain reports of his meeting with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in New Delhi on May 30 which appeared in several national and regional newspapers.

In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, the MPC chief and former chief minister stated that a statement was once again made following the meeting that ''the Reang(Bru) people were driven out from Mizoram by the Mizo villagers and the number of people who are in the refugee camps in Tripura are more than 30,000.

''Is it that the government of Mizoram accepts the allegation that the Reangs were being driven out by the Mizo villagers or that the government of Mizoram deviates from all political parties and the NGOs in Mizoram, who continue to take a firm stand that the Reang political leaders, in order to strengthen their political demand to create an Autonomous District Council for Reangs living in Mizoram, and made artificial and self-imposed forced-eviction theory to garner more support from the Union Home Department authorities.

''To make it look like real they even forced their own people to leave Mizoram in the guise of forceful eviction by Mizo villagers, thereby making false allegations of rapes and inhuman treatment meted out by the Mizos towards the Reangs to the knowledge of Government of India and the International Human Rights Commission,'' T Sailo stated in his memorandum.

The MPC chief also urged the state government to explain whether all refugee communities numbering more than 30,000 in various camps in Tripura were still not considered as genuine refugees from Mizoram and that only 3,189 people would be identified as genuine refugees from Mizoram, who can rightfully be repatriated to Mizoram.

The MPC also severely criticised the Mizo National Front government alleged move to lift the Restricted Area Permit(RAP) and Inner Line Permit(ILP) to boost tourism in Mizoram.

A Tourism Department high official had earlier been quoted as saying that the Mizoram government has taken steps to lift RAP and ILP, which the official, however, denied as being misquoted.

However, the MNF today accused that Brig T Sailo and Bru National Union president A Sawibuanga had signed an agreement on April 14, 1996, agreeing to provide the Brus with a homeland in Mizoram if the Brus helped the MPC get elected in the next elections.
