BJP demands municipal bodies in Arunachal
Itanagar, June 08: The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has urged Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu to introduce municipal bodies in urban areas to ensure healthy participation of people in urban development programmes.
Stressing on the urgent need of introducing municipality institution in urban areas of the state, the party said, ''The developmental programmes meant for the urban areas were in single line operation where urban population was not participating in any stage of development and in most areas the panchayat members are playing double role both in the urban and rural areas.'' It claimed that with the development of unplanned town, the urban people were denied their basic amenities. ''Municipality should be introduced to ensure good governance and people's participation in development process,'' the party demanded.
In a letter to Mr Khnadu, the party also urged to complete construction of half-finished road connecting Putin via Yupia-Midpu-Hoj road for the convenience of the Arunachalees, particularly people of Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri districts who were facing difficulties and harassment while arriving at the state capital through Asom road.
