AR recovers arms
Aizawl, Jun 8 (UNI) The Assam Rifles personnel recovered arms and ammunition near New Vaikhawtlang village along the Indo-Myanmar border yesterday, official sources said today.
Sources said the recovered arms included an AK 47 Rifle without any magazine,a 9mm pistol with one magazine, five rounds of 9mm pistol, a Tac Phone (Kenwood) and two hand grenades, at around 1650 hrs yesterday.
''The Assam Rifles team who were moving from New Vaikhawtlang to border post 29, saw a suspiscious-looking civilian coming from the opposite direction., The man seemed to turn back at the sight of the Rifles patrol. When the leading scout challenged him he ran towards the border.
''Taking advantage of the undergrowth, he managed to escape leaving behind a bundle of wood in the jungle. During a search of the area, the said arms and ammunition were recovered,'' AR sources said.
The security forces believed that the man was ferrying these arms.
An FIR has been filed with Ngopa police station.
