UR Rao to get ISRO Lifetime Achievement Award

Thiruvananthapuram, June 7 (UNI) Former Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) Chairman U R Rao has been selected for the 'Life time Achievement Award,' instituted by the ISRO and the Astronautical Society of India, in recognition to his outstanding contributions in furthering space science, technology and applications in the country.

President A P J Abdul Kalam will give away the award, carrying cash prize of Rs 20 lakh and citation, to him at function to be organised tomorrow at the Master Control acility (MCF), Hassan, a Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre(VSSC) release said here today.

VSSC director B N Suresh, along with Dr S C Gupta, Mr N Pant, Mr E V Chitnis and Dr P S Geol have been selected for the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Each award carries a cash prize of Rs ten lakh and a citation and it would be given to individuals whose achievements were outstanding, served more than 25 years and contributed significantly to innovative research and development, science and technology, path breaking applications and excellence in project management.

Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre Former Director R V Perumal, VSSC Associate Directors V Adimurthy and S Ramakrishnan were the recipients of the Performance Excellence Awards along with six others from various ISRO centres. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs five lakh and citation.

It said 17 scientists from various centres of ISRO got the merit award, each carrying Rs one lakh and citation. Mr Narayana Murthy N and Dr R Vikraman Nair from the VSSC, Mr C G Balan and Mr C H Kunhikammaran from LPSC and Mr M C Dattan were the recipients in this category from Kerala centres.
