Lucknow, June 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi today directed Vice-Chancellors of various universities to curb illegal coaching practices and unauthorised study centers run by the varsity staff.

In the second and final day of his meeting with state VCs in Yojna Bhawan, Mr Tripathi said the practice is against the University norms and VCs ought to check it.

Mr Tripathi took serious not of complaints made by some VCs that files are kept pending for long in the secretariat, which frustrates University efforts to cope with difficulties.

He ordered to identify such officers, who sit over files and take strict action against the accused.

He directed the VCs to enforce strict discipline in the campus and check the practice of ragging, which had drawn attention of the Supreme Court and Government of India.

''Ragging has taken an ugly turn and students, especially freshers are uselessly terrorised,'' the minister noted.

He further asked all the universities in the state to upgrade the standard of education in the state by providing all facilities to the students and the faculty members.

Addressing the function, Mr Tripathi said the seats in all the universities have been increased.
