UP heat wave toll at 48
Lucknow, June 7 (UNI) The ongoing heatwave in Uttar Pradesh claimed eight more lives in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 48.
For the past few weeks, the northern state is reeling under scorching conditions and according to Met department, no respite is expected in the coming days.
Intense heat wave killed two people in Chandauli and one each in Lucknow, Unnao, Barabanki, Jhansi, Banda and Mirzapur.
In the last 24 hrs, above normal temperatures were recorded in Varanasi, Lucknow, Allahabad, Agra and Banda divisions.
Banda, for the second consecutive day, was the hottest at 44.8 degrees Celsius. Lucknow recorded 43.7 degrees, two degrees above normal. The weather was mainly dry at other places.
A report from Allahabad and Agra said people endured searing heat.
Markets remained deserted in afternoon as people find it hard to leave the comforts of their house.
Heavy load shedding added to the woes of people in Kanpur.
