New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) Aimed at tapping the photochromic lenses market in the country, US-based Transitions Opticals will reach out to one thousand more optical stores by the year-end.

''We will enhance our presence in India by reaching out to 1,000 optical more stores by this year-end from existing 700 stores,'' Transitions Optical India Business Director Deven Patil told reporters here today.

He said the glass lens market is shifting to plastic at a fast pace and the company wanted to grab the opportunity.

The total market for lenses in India was 70 million pieces last year, Mr Patil said adding that the unorganised photochromic lenses market is miniscule with less than five per cent.

Its lenses are priced between Rs 1,800 and Rs 10,000.

The company is a joint venture formed by PPG Industries (Pittsburgh, PA) and Essilor International (Paris, France) with six manufacturing units across the globe.

The company has also entered into partnership with Sightsavers International and Daryaganj-based Dr Shroff's Charity Eye hospital this year.

Transitions Opticals, a plastic photochromic lens company, is the first one to revolutionise the plastic photochromic lenses industry in India.
