Punjab Police recover Rs 22 lakh hawala money

Hoshiarpur, June 7 (UNI) The police today nabbed a local resident while he was ferrying hawala money to the tune of Rs 22.06 lakh in the town.

The alleged culprit identified as Chetan Kumar alias Baboo of Bhawani Nagar was nabbed while he was transporting the cash in a bag on his scooter.

Giving detials SSP Anita Punj said a police party nabbed Baboo near Tagore Park following at tip off by a source.

Ms Punj said the police also seized a faxed list from him giving details of the persons to whom the money was to be distributed. A case under section 102 of the CrPC had been registered and officials of the Enforcement Directorate, Jalandhar, had been informed, she said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Director, Enforcement reached here and police handed over the culprit alongwith hawala money and faxed list to him for further action.
