Punab govt offers free land for Adarsh schools

Chandigarh, June 7 (UNI) In a bid to provide quality education to the students in the rural areas, the Punjab Government has offered land free of cost to the interested institutions to run Adarsh Schools, the brainc child of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

An assurance to this effect was given by the Chief Minister while presiding over a meeting of Chandigarh-based academicians and scholars here today.

He urged them to setup world class educational institutions in the villages to impart vocational and technical education besides academic curriculum to the rural students. He also asked them to re-cast the academic syllabi in order to vocationalize the education system and to enable the students to get employment.

The academicians agreed in principle to the proposal of Mr Badal to start two months refresher courses in service training for the teachers posted in rural areas so as to upgrade their teaching skills during the vacations.

Mr Badal even offered to setup a hostel at Mohali for the stay of teachers who were willing to undertake the training course.

The Principals of the local schools also agreed to impart training free-of-cost to the teachers.

Prominent amongst others who attended the meeting included Education Minister Dr Upinderjit Kaur, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Harcharan Bains, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister D S Guru, School Education Secretary K B S Sidhu and DPI Schools and Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Parveen Kumar.
