Public servant remanded

Basirhat, Jun 7 (UNI) Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate court here in North 24 Parganas remanded a personal assistant to the Sub-Divisional Officer(SDO), Basirhat, to judicial custody for 14 days.

The accused, Sushanta Roy Adhikary, was produced before the additional chief Judicial Magistrate yesterday.

Police had arrested the accused from a house in Behala in the southern fringes of the city. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint lodged by his wife Bandana Roy Adhikary, who is also a state government employee in the Regional Employment Exchange here, for allegedly torturing her in their Goalpota village house under Basirhat police station.

Incidentally, police arrested Mr Roy Adhikary, when his wife moved to the Chief Minister and other senior police officer with the complaint, while State Co-ordination Committee and women's organization raised voice against police inaction at the local level.

According to complaint, she had lodged complaints against her husband and other in-laws for torturing her since their marriage 17 years back.
