NKC recommends setting up of Central Library Fund
Kolkata, Jun 7(UNI) The National Knowledge Commission(NKC) today urged the Centre to set up a Central Library Fund with a corpus of Rs 1,000 crore.
NKC Advisor-(Libraries) Kalpana Dasgupta said here that Rs 1,000 crore could be mobilised from the private sector.
The Commission recommended for setting up of a National Commission on libraries, preparing a national census of all libraries and revamping it's education, training and research facilities.
Ms Dasgupta, while speaking in the forum on ''towards a knowledge society: changing dimensions of libraries and information systems'', said NKC also recommended for re-assessment of staffing of libraries and modernisation of library management.
The Commission also recommended greater community participation in library management, promoting ICT applications in all libraries, facilitating donations and maintenance of private collections and encouraging public-private partnerships in it's development.
