New farm techniques boost wheat production

Sultanpur, Jun 7 (UNI) Implementing new farm techniques and with capacity utilisation of irrigation facilities, farmers of this district have achieved remarkable growth in wheat production this year.

District Agriculture Officer A N Pandey today told UNI here that on an average 30 quintals per hectare of wheat was produced this year, which is maximum in Faizabad division.

He informed that farmers adopted new farming methods, while the use of fertilisers was also rationalised to sow new seed varieties.

In the past few years, a drought-like situation had prevailed in the district, which led to low production.

Mr Pandey further said wheat production would have been even better, if some rainfall was recorded in January this year.

In 2006-07, around 5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was produced here in 1.66 lakh hectares; in 2005-06, around 4.26 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was produced in 1.65 lakh hectares, whereas in 2004-05, 4.22 lakh metric tonnes of wheat were produced from 1.67 lakh hectares.
