Goa: Cong-led coalition govt to be sworn in today

Panaji, June 7: The new Congress-led coalition government is likely to be sworn in by this evening.

The Congress Legislature Party is scheduled to meet at about 1500 hrs today to elect the new leader when the special emissaries of the party high command are expected to announce the name of the chief ministerial candidate on behalf of party supremo Sonia Gandhi here.

Informed sources said, Bahujan Samaj leader and GPCC president Ravi S Naik, who was two times chief minister earlier, is likely to be the chief ministerial candidate, sources said.

The new leader will later stake claim with governor S C Jamir and form the government immediately as the NCP alliance partner with three legislators, besides MGP with two legislators and two independents have already pledged their support to the 16-member Congress for formation of government.

Special emissaries of the Congress high command -- senior party leader R K Dhavan, MP, and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde --- are expected to reach the city here along with AICC general secretary in charge of Goa desk Margret Alva this afternoon from New Delhi to formalise the government formation, according to AICC secretary Shantaram Naik, MP.

''There may not be any further delay in government formation with all decks cleared,'' Mr Naik added.
