Nagpur, June 7: Suspected naxalites shot dead a villager in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

A group of three armed naxalites stormed into the house of Sukhram Tubuji Kawado (40) in village Mohgaon in Kurkheda tehsil of the district this morning, and fired at him.

Kawado sustained five bullet injuries and died on the spot, according to a police press release.

The naxalites fled from the spot after leaving behind pamphlets saying that Kawado had been 'found guilty by a people's court' of the Korchi Area Committee, of killing Tikaram Alam, a former sarpanch of village Charbhatti, who had been missing for the last three years, the release said.

Kawado was originally from Charbhatti, and was living in Mohgaon for the last four years, it said.

Earlier, a group of suspected naxalites burnt down a tractor that was being used in road construction near village Botehur in the district yesterday, police said.

A group of six armed naxalites forced the driver of the tractor to take the vehicle to a secluded spot before setting it afire, the release added.
