Militants kidnap student in upper Asom

Guwahati, June 7 (UNI) A student of St Joseph School of Sonari in Sivasagar district of upper Asom was kidnapped by suspected militants today.

Police sources said the class 7 student Rajat Agarwalla (12), son of Dilip Agarwalla, was kidnapped while he was on his way to school, around 5 km from Sonari police station, this morning.

Dilip Agarwalla is an employee of Taukat Tea Estate.

While the exact cause of the kidnapping of the Hindi-speaking boy was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that extortion might be the reason.

Senior police officials, including the superintendent of police, have rushed to the spot. Investigations are on.
