Micro Scale Chemistry laboratory inaugurated in RIE
Mysore, June 7 (UNI) Southern Regional Micro Scale Chemistry Laboratory, the first of its kind in the country, was inaugurated at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE) here today.
Speaking after the inauguration, RIE Principal G T Bhandage urged the teachers to make use of the facility to conduct experiments using minimum amount of chemicals.
Mr H O Gupta of National Council of Education and Training (NCERT), New Delhi, who was also the architect of the new laboratory technique, said it was an environmentally safe and almost completely pollution free method of performing experiments in chemistry.
He said the new technique had been tried in New Delhi schools successfully. It was student, environment, administrator and teacher friendly. Use of small amounts of chemicals would reduce the risk of accidents, acid burns and fumes. The laboratory cost would also be reduced as there would be fewer incidents of breakage of glass. Besides, storage space could also be saved.
Using this technique all chemistry experiments at the school level from class six to 11 could be performed with ease and confidence.
The RIE here is the nodal centre for labs which cover the entire Southern region.
