Markfed's Sohna brand earn Rs 82 lakh profit
Jalandhar, June 7 (UNI) Markfed Canneries, famous for its Sohna brand of canned farm products has recorded an all time high sale of Rs 702.50 lakh and earned a profit of Rs 82.50 lakh during the last financial year.
The unit, which was set up 38 years ago, would be upgraded now and a state-of-the-art food processing unit would be set up and integrated with the cold storage-cum-pack house at Dhandari Kalan, Cooperation Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh announced here today.
Markfed has invited expression of interest (EOI) from various consultants of repute for conducting detailed market research on the market potential of various fruit and vegetable products in raw, frozen, semi processed and processed forms for sale in the domestic and overseas markets. The selected consultant would also prepare a feasibility study for setting up of the food processing unit at Dhandari Kalan.
Markfed Canneries started production of canned Sarson-Ka-Saag, its most sought after item, for export in 1975, with the help of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) scientists. From the export of 15,000 cans of Saag in 1975, Markfed exported 20.66 lakh cans and other ethnic canned products in 2006-07.
Sohna ethnic foods are exported to and relished by the North Indians and Pakistani Punjabis settled in the Middle East, USA, North America, Europe, Far Eastern countries including Australia and New Zealand. The Sohna canned product range includes Sarson-Ka-Saag, Chatpata Chana, Daal Makhni, Palak Paneer, Mater Paneer, Kari Pakora, Rajmah, Alu Wari, Kala Chana etc.
