Mahasammelan to focus on Arya Samaj role in 1857
Chandigarh, Jun 7 (UNI) An 'Arya Mahasammelan' will be held in Rohtak on June 12 to highlight the contribution of Arya Samaj founder Swami Dayanand Saraswati in the first war of Independence in 1857.
Announcing this here today, Arya Samaj leader Swami Agnivesh regretted that the role played by Swami Dayanand and other Arya Samaj leaders in the freedom struggle till 1947 was not highlighted in the official functions organised at the Parliament House and the Red Fort in Delhi to mark the 150th anniversary of 1857 war of Independence.
Swami Agnivesh said about 25,000 people would participate in the Mahasammelan which would be inaugurated by Union Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would be the Chief Guest at the function.
On the occasion, aqbout 10,000 youths would take a pledge to work for casteless society, inter-caste and inter-religious marriages and to mobilise the people against female foeticide, alcoholism and communalism, he added.
