Kolkata, Jun 7(UNI) The Left trade unions will start discussions after the Presidential election on the need to continue outside support to the UPA Government at the Centre, AITUC General Secretary Gururdas Dasgupta today said.

''It is necessary to review the blanket support to the Government at the Centre, and I say this with all importance. Let the Presidential election be over, and we shall chalk out plans for a broadbased movement,'' he told reporters after addressing a rally here.

Mr Dasgupta, who is also the Deputy Leader of CPI in the Lok Sabha, alleged Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Commerce Minister Kamal Nath were performing a ''most unjust role'' that made the Left parties to think about reviewing support to the Government.

Earlier, speaking at the rally, organised by Kolkata Municipal Corporation workers, Mr Dasgupta alleged that the UPA Government was working only for the rich and the poor was becoming poorer because of the present economic policy.

''It can not be that Mr Manmohan Singh will forever remain the Prime Minister and the Left parties will continue to raise hands in support. We shall not support this Government for ever, nor shall we let Mr Chidambaram remain...,'' he said.

Stressing that trade union movement must be strengthened, Mr Dasgupta said their objective was to extract from the capitalists the rights of workers and common employees.
