ND: Leeds Unv confers doctorate on Praful Patel

New Delhi, Jun 7: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel was today conferred upon an honorary doctorate degree by the Leeds Metropolitan University, UK in recognition of his ''outstanding contribution to the modernisation of India's civil aviation industry.'' Accepting the degree, Mr Patel said it was ''a recognition of the progress of civil aviation in India.'' The decision to confer the degree on Mr Patel was conveyed to the minister by University Vice-Chancellor Simon Lee personally.

Each year the Leeds Metropolitan University confers honorary degrees on a small number of distinguished recipients.

This year being the centenary year of the Leeds Metropolitan University, it is being celebrated at the university's Headingly campus. The university has marked these celebrations with a special Honorary Awards ceremony.
