Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 7 (UNI) The Kerala Government today decided to serve a show-cause notice to Tata Tea Ltd asking why action should not be initiated against it for encroaching upon 3,113 acres of government land in Munnar on the high ranges of Western Ghats.

State Forest Minister Benoy Viswam told newspersons here the action was initiated on the basis of the disclosure by the Tata Tea itself that it possessed a surplus 3,113 acres of land in addition to the 16,898 acres allotted to it under the Land Board Award in 1974 for fuel wood cultivation.

He said the company would be given 15 days time to reply to the notice and steps would be taken thereafter to recover the land.

He said the Hyderabad-based National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), which was conducting a satellitte survey of the total 57,359.14 acres of land in the legal possession of Tata, would submit its report within two weeks.

Further steps would be taken on the basis of the survey report.

''Every inch of the encroached land will be taken back from the Tata,'' he added.
