Bangalore, Jun 7 (UNI) Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Director General Mangala Rai today stressed the need for development of skilled human resource in agriculture for promoting it in a big way.

Addressing the faculty and students of University of Agricultural Sciences here, he said to create adequate manpower, the government should bring changes in the style of recruitment right at the entry level.

Top priority must be accorded to skill development.

''For the last 10 to 15 years the country was not getting enough senior scientists and their number was further trickling down,'' he said.

The Agriculture Ministry had asked all the Chief Ministers to fill up the posts funded by ICAR in their Universities immediately, he said.

Stating that agriculture should be promoted as an industry with huge investments, he said this would help the farmers to get higher profits and better remuneration for their produce.

He also stressed for the development of adaptation and mitigation technology in view of climate changes affecting the agricultural production.
