Hyundai to increase production capacity upto 6lakh units

Kolkata, Jun 07 (UNI) Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is setting up its second plant this year to produce an additional 300,000 units per annum thus raising the total production capacity to 600,000 units by end of 2007.

IT would also invest to expand its capacity in line with its positioning as HMC's global hub for compact cars and has plans to expand is dealer network, which would be increased from 183 to 250 this year, according to a release here today.

HMIL, a wholly owned subsidiary of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Company, has registered a total sales of 299,513 vehicles in 2006, an increase of 18.5 per cent over 2005.

It has thus become the second largest and fastest growing car manufacturer in India, the release stated.

In the domestic market it clocked a gowth of 19.1 per cent in 2006 as compared to 2005, while the overseas sales grew by 17.4 per cent with exports of 113.339 units.

With greater focus on quality of after sales services, HMIL's service network would be expanded to around 1,000 this year.

HMIL, the country's largest exporter and second largest automobile manufacturer, will provide free check-ups at convenient locations as a part of its the "Always Around" car check-up campaign to be launched on June 10 in 64 major cities across the country all round the year.

The company produces cars in six segments ranging from Santro in the B segment to the Tuscon in SUV segment.
