Nashik: Home delivery scheme of PDS launched
Nashik, June 7: What could prove to be a trendsetter in the country's public distribution system (PDS), the home delivery scheme of PDS was launched today by District Collector S Cholkalingam at Alangaon, a tribal area in Surgana taluka of the North Maharashtra district.
On the occasion, Mr Chokalingam greeted MLA Jeeva Pandu Gavit, who has played a pivotal role in implementation of the scheme.
As per the scheme, poor people can get foodgrain at their door-step according to their needs and demand, bringing transparency in the process and preventing black-marketeering and other malpractices.
A total of 197 beneficiaries were given foodgrains. 177 were given stock of foodgrains for three months, while others were given stock for six months.
Mr Chokalingam said the coming together of the administration and people's representatives can make any project successful.
Mr Gavit said the scheme is the first of its kind in the country, which can change the PDS system.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Zila Parishad chief executive officer Dnyaneshwar Rajurkar, Deputy Commissioner Prakash Thate and Additional district collector Shekhar Gaikwad, the inventor of the scheme.
