Heavy rain claims five lives in Bijapur district

Bijapur, Karnataka, June 7 (UNI) Heavy rain, accompanied by lightning, claimed five lives, including that of a woman, in the district since last night, officials said today.

Superintendent of Police Seemant K Singh said three people were charred to death in a lightning strike near Talikot.

While one person died on the spot when lightning struck him near Muddebihal, a woman was killed when the roof of a house collapsed on her at Ganesha village in the district.

Heavy downpour continued in the district and water entered houses in the low-lying areas.
