HC issues notices to Centre, Arunachal

Itanagar, June 7 (UNI) The Gauhati High Court (GHC) has issued notices to 10 respondents, including the central government as well as, Arunachal and Asom government, regarding the allocation of hydropower projects.

The notices came on to the PIL, challenging the move to execute hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, moved by the Environment Protection&Sustainable Society (EPSS) chairman Nabam Tagam.

On hearing the petitioner's counsel, Chief Justice J Chelameswar and Justice A Hazarika considered the nature of allegations and also financial implications of the decision taken by the respondents before issuing the directive yesterday.

Objecting to the allocaion of hydropower projects to private companies, the petitioner had pleaded the court to quash the entire bidding process and direct the state government to stay the tendering process by pending the hearing of the petition.
