Gulf sector flights disrupted as air space is clogs

Kozhikode, June 7 (UNI) Flight operations from Karippur International Airport near here to Gulf countries suffered inordinate delay due to non-availability of air space, Airport Director R Veeraswamy today said.

However, the airlines were making alternate arrangements by rerouting and rescheduling the flights to various destinations in the sector, he said.

Indian Mumbai-Goa-Clt-Sharjah flight scheduled to leave Karippur 1945 hrs yesterday took off for Sharjah 0935 hrs today, Station Manager N Kannan said.

Clt-Doha-Baharain and Clt-Dubai flights scheduled to take off at 0700 and 1015 hrs respectively were also delayed indefinitely, he said.

Passengers of Air India Express IX-349, which took off from Karippur for Muscut at 0820 hrs yesterday were stranded at Dubai after the flight was diverted following closure of the airport, Airport Manager Perl Fernandez said.

AI flights scheduled to depart for Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi were also delayed indefinitely, she said.

The aviation services to the sector were disrupted as cyclone 'Gonu' pounded the Oman coast.
