Four illegal Bangladeshi immigrants held

Ahmedabad, June 7 (UNI) The Ahmedabad Crime Branch today arrested four illegal Bangladeshi immigrants on charges of anti-national activities.

The arrested were identified as Shahbuddin Gaus Sheikh, Mohemmed Jaber alias Abdul Rehman Sikbar, Shahjahan Siddiquebhai Munshi Kayam Ali Sheikh and Abdul Mutlib Faqir.

''Shahbuddin Gaus Sheikh was picked up from Navabnagar of Chandola talav area in the city. Hailing from Nodial district of Bangladesh, Sheikh had crossed the border with Rs 2000 in his bag and had come to Ahmedabad by Howrah Express,'' Police Commissioner (Crime Branch) V K Amaliyar, who headed the special operation group of the crime branch to nab the immigrants, told reporters here.

''Sheikh, who originally hails from Lakshmiola village of Kulna district of Bangladesh, was associated with Purba Bangla Communist Party. In Bangladesh, he faces charges of three murders and theft of 19 rifles. He has been absconding for the past nine years,'' he said.

''Likewise, Mohemmed Jaber alias Abdul Rehman Sikbar also came to Ahmedabad through Howrah by paying Rs 2500 to an agent called Haqim.

Sikbar hails from Nodial district of Bangladesh. The third illegal immigrant Shahjahan Siddiqbhai Munshi Kayam Ali Sheikh, who hails from Nijgram, Botiaghata, district Khulna from Bangladesh crossed the border by paying Rs 2500 to an agent. The fourth immigrant Abdul Mutlib Faqir crossed the border by paying Rs 1500 to an agent,'' Mr Amaliyar said.

Following a tip-off, the special operation group of crime branch comprising Mr Amaliyar, police inpsector Tarun Kumar Barot, police Inspectors B A Chawda and J M Bharwad arrested the immigrants who did not possess any official papers like passports, birth certificates, rationing cards or election cards, he added.
