Fire in Kullu damages Rs 1.20 crore property

Kullu, Jun 7 (UNI) A devastating fire gutted six houses, eight shops and two rooms of a primary government school and injured 13 people in a village in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh late last night, police sources said.

The fire, which began from a room in Malana village due to a short circuit, soon spread to the adjoining houses, shops and school, causing an estimated loss of Rs 1.20 crore.

The sources said 34 families have been rendered homeless due the fire that injured 13 villagers who were trying to put it off.

The injured were given first aid at the village by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), the sources said, adding that they were being housed in suitable buildings until alternate arrangements were made.

The sources said state Agriculture Minister Raj Krishan Gaur has expressed grief and sorrow over the incident and has directed the district authorities to provide all possible assistance to the affected people.

The authorities have announced immediate relief to the people, they added.
