Electricity Supply Cos aim to raise Rs 2,000cr from tariff hike

Bangalore, June 7 (UNI) Five electricity supply companies in the state today filed a tariff hike application before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) seeking an across the board increase of 90 paise per unit to raise an additional income of Rs 2,000 crore from all categories of consumers.

According to official sources the increase, however, does not include ''Bhagya Jyothi'', ''Kutira Jyothi'' and power supplies to irrigation pumpsets.

The companies are headquartered in Bangalore, Hubli, Mysore, Mangalore and Gulbarga.

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company alone aimed to muster an additional Rs 1,091 crore.

Once approved by the KERC, the ESCOMs would have to notify the hike for public hearing. KERC would provide the tariff order after a detailed process of public hearing where it would hear the views of a cross section of consumers.
