Bangalore, Jun 7 (UNI) All the five Electricity Supply Companies of Karnataka today filed a tariff hike application before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission seeking an across the board 90 paise per unit increase for all categories of consumers.

According to official sources the increase, however, did not include Bhagya Jyothi, Kutira Jyothi and power supplies to irrigation pumpsets.

The companies headquartered in Bangalore, Hubli, Mysore, Mangalore, and Gulbarga hoped to raise an additional income of around Rs.2000 crore from the proposed hike. Bangalore Electricity Supply Company alone aimed to muster an additional Rs.1091 crore.

Once approved by the KERC, the ESCOMs would have to notify the hike for public hearing. KERC would provide the tariff order after a detailed process of public hearing where it would hear the views of a cross section of consumers.
