Mumbai, Jun 7 (UNI) Another discrepancy in recording of statement of a witness by the police in the murder trial of senior BJP leader late Pramod Mahajan was today brought on record before the trial court.

Pramod Mahajan was shot at on April 22 last year allegedly by his youngest brother Praveen. He passed away on May 3.

The statement of Altaf Abbas Tahirali Bandukwala, a witness from whom Praveen had purchased a 12 bore pistol and 50 cartrdiges at the cost of Rs 24,310 on July 7, 1999 had the date written on top as April 12.

At the bottom of statement, police officer signed with date of April 13, 2006, whereas the recording of statements began only on May 2, 2006.

Defence advocate Harshad Ponda brought this discrepancy to the notice of the Additional Sessions Court Judge S P Davare. However, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told the court that this was a typing error. Actually, it is May 12 and not April 12, he said.

Witness Bandukwala had come with an invoice book and identified the pistol as well as Praveen Mahajan, who was sitting in dock.

Earlier, BJP city Unit general secretary Atul Bhatkhalkar was examined. He was the panch witness of the bullet injuries.

The trial will continue tomorrow.
