Congress playing politics on octroi: Ashok Bhatt

Ahmedabad, June 7 (UNI) The Congress has no moral standing to comment on the octroi issue or accuse the Gujarat government in this regard, said Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ashok Bhatt.

The decision to abolish octroi from seven municipal corporations was taken by the cabinet, which will be later put into administrative effect. To term this decision as one of ''fooling the people'' as done by the opposition leader Arjun Modhwadia shows his ignorance, he said in an official release here.

As to the code of conduct violation, Mr Bhatt said when a cabinet takes a decision later to be translated into administrative action such decisions cannot be categorised under code of conduct rules. At any rate, the Congress should be the last in talking about code of conduct rules since it has never followed them.

The abolition of octroi was a promise made by the party and the BJP government is totally committed to fulfilling all its promises, he added.
