Business man held at airport

Chennai, Jun 7 (UNI) A person from Puducherry was arrested by immigration authorities in connection with a cheating case when he arrived here from London in an Air France flight, but was released by the police later.

Airport police said Ponnusamy Selvamani, who was having business dealings with Erode-based Sengodan, had allegedly cheated the latter to the tune of Rs 90 lakh and had fled the country in April last year.

As a complaint was with the airport authorities from the Erode police, Selvamani was arrested by the immigration authorities and was later handed over to the police yesterday.

When the team from Erode landed here this morning to take custody of Ponnusamy, the airport police had released him on the ground that he had shown a court order.

The disappointed police team from Erode had taken up the matter with the higher officials.
