Badal asks bureaucracy to be accountable

Chandigarh June 7 (UNI) Continuing his stress on accessibility, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today threw the doors of his government open to the people by directing the Administrative Secretaries and other senior officers to be available in their repective offices for daily "Sangat Darshan" between 1230 pm to 1330 pm.

In addition, Mr Badal also asked the officers to regularly tour the state, especially the countryside, for an on-the-spot review and redress of people's problems.

He said that he expected the bureaucracy to conform to the highest norms of commitment, involvement and sincerity to their assigned tasks and exhorted them to be 'civil' as well as 'servants' of the people.

Presiding over a meeting of all Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries and Administrative Secretaries here, the Chief Minister called upon the officers to assess the ground realities in the field and concentrate on the critical areas where special attention was needed especially in the fields of health, education and employment.

Mr Badal also asked them to improve their liaison with their counterparts in the central government and to regularly review the progress of state plans as well as centrally sponsored schemes.

He also directed the Chief Secretary to fortnightly hold the meeting of all the Administrative Secretaries to take stock of the situation with regard to the implementations of these schemes.
