Arm licences suspended in Gujjar agitation affected areas
Jaipur, June 7 (UNI) The Rajasthan Government has decided to suspend arms licences and deposit licenced weapons at the police stations in the Gujjar agitation affected districts of the state.
Principal Secretary(Home) V S Singh told reporters here today that the move is aimed to ease off tension and instil confidence in denizens in about 14 districts, which had witnessed widespread violence during the week-long Gujjar agitation demanding inclusion of the community into the ST list.
He said the government was also contemplating a move to launch campaign for seizure of illicit weapons in these areas.
The local area community liaising groups(CLGs) were also being activated to mobilise their resources to ease out tension and restore harmony and brotherhood among people of all communities, including Gujjars and Meenas.
He expressed satisfaction over return of gradual normalcy in the affected areas and said the situation was now fully under control.
Mr Singh said a total of 264 cases had so far been lodged in connection with various incidents during the week long Gujjar agitation.
