AP Govt to take up Godavari Water Supply Scheme: YSR
Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, June 7 (UNI) Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced his government would implement Godavari Water Supply Scheme aimed at supplying protected drinking water to the people in 13 Assembly Constituencies in West Godavari District.
Speaking at the public meeting here, Dr Reddy said a sum of Rs 300 crore would be allocated in the next Budget for the scheme which would also involve cleaning up the river and ensure piped water supply to the West Godavari residents.
The government would also modernise the drains and canals in Godavari Delta area at any cost.The present delta canal system, which constructed 150 years ago by Sir Arthur Cotton, had become outdated.
The government had already called for tenders to strengthen the Godavari river bunds in the state at a cost of Rs 500 crore. The works would be complted in one year.
He said the government would issue administrative sanction orders to taken up modernization of Yerrakalva Rivulet and Yenamadurru Drains in West Godavari District to be taken up with a cost of Rs 100 crore.
Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation stone for a housing colony to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs six crore at Ganapavaram.
