AIAI welcomes Guj govt's decision to abolish Octroi
Mumbai, June 7 (UNI) The All India Association of Industries (AIAI) today welcomed Gujarat government's decision to abolish Octroi from the State.
AIAI President Vijay Kalantri in a Statement here said ''By abolishing Octroi, Gujarat government has taken a step in the direction of promoting growth of trade and commerce, which was curtailed by this levy.'' AIAI feels that Maharashtra government should also follow suit to give a competitive edge to trade and industry here.
The Gujarat government, under Keshubhai Patel had approved a proposal to abolish Octroi in 150 municipalities and 330 gram panchayats. However, six municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar were not included and they accounted for annual revenue from octroi of over Rs 5,000 crore, the statement added.
