33 bar girls arrested in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 7 (UNI) As many as 33 bar girls and the manager of Discovery bar at Sion in north central Mumbai were arrested today for running business beyond the stipulated time set by the administration, police said.

The police conducted the raid at about 0300 hrs.

The bar girls were let off after a fine of Rs 1,200 each. The manger was also made to pay Rs 5,000 as fine for the offence, sources said.

The police had recently arrested 36 bar girls from two bars in the western suburbs. Of these, 23 bar dancers were from a bar in Andheri and the remaining were from a bar joint in Borivali.

The State government has passed a bill banning dance performances of any kind, in beer bars, permit rooms or eating houses from August 2005.
