25-year-old woman hanged for dowry in Punjab

Sangrur, June 7 (UNI) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly hanged by her husband and his family in Fammanwal village of the district yesterday, police sources today said.

In his statement to the police, the victim's father, Bhagat Singh alleged that his daughter, Manjit Kaur, mother of a 2-year-old boy, was married to Resham Singh four years back. He said that on June 4, her husband demanded Rs 50,000.

He said in his statement that as he failed to meet the demand his daughter was killed by the husband and his family.

The police had registered a case under sections 304B and 34 of the IPC against husband Resham Singh, brother-in-law Sukhchain Singh, Sister-in-law Gurdeep Kaur and father-in-law Pinder Singh. All of them are absconding.
