VHP demands restoration of seer's security cover

Ayodhya, June 6 (UNI) The VHP today demanded that the security cover of Sri Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das be restored.

Mr Das had been provided with 'Y' security cover, which the newly elected Uttar Pradesh government has scaled down to 'X' category.

Terming the step as ''unfortunate'' VHP media in charge Sharad Sharma said, ''The Mahant is facing threat to life from fundamentalists. The state government should have kept in mind that Mr Das is heading an organisation, which is highly sensitive.'' He claimed that a murderous attack had already been made on the Nyas president in 2002, following which the security cover was given.

The state government will be responsible for any laxity in his security, the VHP leader added.
