Urdu native language of India: Chaturvedi

Bangalore, June 6 (UNI) Stating that Urdu language was born and developed in India, Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi today called for removing certain misgivings surrounding the language including the one that it belongs to a particular community or religion.

Speaking after inaugurating the sixth All India Conference of State Urdu Academies, organised jointly by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Karnataka Urdu Academy, here, he said Urdu, hailed as one of the few sweet languages of the world, actually belonged to India and had rich academic value like any other language in the country.

Despite being widely spoken by a large section of the people across the country, certain misconceptions about if existed, he noted, and urged the experts to take steps to remove such misgivings.

Stating that Urdu as a media had played a significant role in the struggle for freedom of the country, he said that it was part and parcel of the struggle for Independence.

Referring to the demand made by the National Council for Promotion of Urdu to allot land for setting up its National Coordination Center, Mr Chaturvedi promised to take up the matter with the Chief Minister.

He also promised to prevail upon the state government to allocate more funds for the Karnataka Urdu Academy which did not have its own premises.
