'Tenure not a criteria for promotion or transfer'

Thane, June 6: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R R Patil, made it clear that the completion of tenure by any officer in the police force does not automatically entitle them either for promotion or transfer.

This clarification was given by Mr Patil yesterday, following a reference made by Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, regarding Thane Police Commissioner D Shivanandan and Thane Rural DSP Archana Tyagi who had completed their tenure in Thane and did an exemplary job during their stay here.

Mr Naik hinted that they should be promoted and transferred out of Thane, but the statement by Mr Patil laid to rest all the speculations and high expectations.

Mr Patil also said if an area wanted an officer to remain there for some more time he would be retained and if an officer needed to be transferred before the completion of the tenure he would be shifted out.

Thus it has become crystal clear that these two police officers would not be shifted out of Thane in the near future.

But Mr Patil, through out his speech did not fail to shower praises on Mr Shivanandan and said he was one officer in the entire Maharashtra Police force who did exemplary job in the interest of the members of the constabulary.
